Orchestra of Opera North: Wings with live score

This event has passed.

We mark the centenary of both the end of World War I and the formation of the Royal Air Force with a special screening of the 1927 silent film, Wings, with Carl Davis’ 1993 live score performed in sync with the movie.

The winner of the first Academy Award for Best Picture in 1929, Wings is a romantic action picture written and directed by combat pilots John Monk Saunders and William Wellman. In a small town in America, rivals Jack and David both vie for the affections of Sylvia Lewis. As romance starts to blossom, both men are called up to enlist and the pandemonium of war threatens to tear the lovers apart.

For this commemorative concert screening, we’re pleased to welcome conductor Carl Davis CBE to the podium to conduct his own score for this landmark film.

Talking Music (Huddersfield only) begins at 6.10pm
