Will any of the sessions take place on Zoom or be recorded?
No, all rehearsals for this project will be taking place in person, so participants would need to join live. If you are interested in an online singing project, please take a look at From Couch To Chorus.
Who will be leading the vocal rehearsals and who will be conducting the final performance?
Vocal rehearsals will be led by an experienced vocal leader and pianist; the final rehearsal and performance on Leeds Grand Theatre stage will be conducting by Opera North’s Music Director, Garry Walker.
Why have you put a limit on the number of spaces available for each voice part?
In order to try and have as balanced a choir as possible, it has been necessary to put a limit on the number of places available for each voice part. We will operate a waiting list so please contact lifelonglearning@operanorth.co.uk if you would like to be added to the waiting list.
Will I be expected to sing from memory for the final performance?
No, we do not expect participants to have memorised the music! You will be able to use your scores on the performance day.
Is there a dress code for the performance?
We would love participants to wear black with a splash of red, for example a red scarf or tie, or a red corsage or a pair of red shoes! We would ask participants to refrain from wearing hats or fascinators to avoid potential sightline issues when on stage.
Is this project accessible?
Yes, if you have any access needs or requirements, please contact lifelonglearning@operanorth.co.uk and we will be happy to discuss with you.
Can friends and family come and see me perform on Leeds Grand Theatre stage?
Yes! Members of the public will be able to purchase a ticket to the final performance. The final performance will be approximately 1 hour long and will feature music from the Orchestra of Opera North and professional soloists. Tickets will be £12.50 each. Please stay tuned for booking details!
