LYR return to the Howard Assembly Room in support of their new album, The Ultraviolet Age.
Formed of Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, singer-songwriter Richard Walters and multi-instrumentalist and producer Patrick J Pearson, the trio’s combination of profound poetry and sublime composition is surprising, expansive and poignant.
Since their first album, 2020’s Call in the Crash Team, the British music scene has seen the establishment of several peers in the sprechgesang space including Dry Cleaning, Yard Act and Black Country, New Road. But it is testament to LYR’s strength of focus that, even still, their music stands apart with intense drama and storming northern noir.
And now The Ultraviolet Age represents an advanced realisation of the possibility contained in their debut, snaking strings, piano-lines and dramatic bass lines enveloping words that are lacerating to those who deserve it, and caring to those who need it.
