This December, The Furrow Collective return with a special festive programme to celebrate the winter nights drawing in.
The Anglo-Scottish band brings together four talented artists, each a Howard Assembly Room favourite in their own right: Lucy Farrell (viola, voice & saw), Rachel Newton (harp, fiddle, voice), Emily Portman (banjo, concertina, voice) and Alasdair Roberts (guitars, voice).
Drawn together by a shared love of the traditional song and balladry of England, Scotland and beyond and an open, intuitive approach to collaboration, they were awarded Best Group at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, hot on the heels of the release of their second album, Wild Hog. On 2018’s follow-up Fathoms, they found new resonances to traditional sea songs, murder ballads, and tender love songs.
For this special concert, The Furrow Collective invite you to draw closer and prepare to be bewitched by eerie story-songs and seasonal carols that revel in the strange and wonderful traditions of these isles. With their signature spine-tingling harmonies and masterful storytelling bringing a spark of light into the wintry gloom, it promises to be an unmissable evening to remember.
“The Furrow Collective have an air of immeasurable antiquity, while at the same time making the songs vibrantly new”
– BBC Radio 2“★★★★ A mouth-watering collaboration”
– Mojo“The Furrow Collective are right at the very top of the game when it comes to traditional music. No-one else is as innovative…”
– Folk Radio UK
