A playboy (Cary Grant) and a nightclub singer (Deborah Kerr) meet aboard an ocean liner, and – although they’re both returning to their partners in New York – fall helplessly in love. As the ship docks, they decide to see if their whirlwind affair will stand the test of time, and hatch a plan to meet at the top of the Empire State Building in six months, having split from their other halves. But a terrible accident en route to the rendezvous throws their plans for a future together into doubt.
Grant and Kerr’s easy chemistry, natural comedy and sassy dialogue steers this classic Hollywood love story clear of the cornball.
