Dance Fables

2019 witnesses the first ever collaboration of Opera North and Phoenix Dance Theatre for the reworking of the iconic The Rite of Spring. Enthused by the organisations’ partnership, they now bring together their youth groups.

Drawing inspiration from the Greek folktales, Aesop’s Fables, both companies have selected their more senior groups to come together to perform a piece in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre.

Phoenix Youth Academy offers high-quality pre-vocational training programmes for aspiring dancers aged 13-19 years, who are interested in pursuing dance as a career. The students work with recognised choreographers and company dancers, supporting them to develop strong contemporary dance techniques.

The Opera North Young Voices (ONYV) and Youth Chorus (ONYC) provide young people aged 11–19 from Yorkshire and beyond, with exciting opportunities to further their musical education and talent through the support of a professional opera company.
