Theatre of Sanctuary Open Mic Night

Tuesday 26 October 2021

This event has passed.

There will be a number of tickets available on the door for this event.

Join us for Opera North’s very first Theatre of Sanctuary Open Mic Night, a celebration of collaboration and connection featuring musicians from around the world who are now based in our region.

Hosted by South African singer-songwriter Thandanani Gumede, the line-up includes Stone Flowers, a Manchester-based collective of musicians who have fled conflict, as well as short performances by talented musicians from the refugee and asylum seeker community in West Yorkshire.

Opera North has been a Theatre of Sanctuary since 2018, in recognition of its ongoing work to make refugees and asylum seekers feel welcome. We are delighted to present this Open Mic night as part of Platforma, a biennial festival of arts by, with and about refugees, taking place in Yorkshire during October 2021.

This event is free to attend. If you are able to consider making a donation while booking your ticket, you’ll be helping us to continue creating opportunities for everyone in our community to engage with the arts and share in the extraordinary power of music.
