‘One of the best poets we have’ (Matt Haig) ‘Like Pam Ayres on acid’ (Lemn Sissay) ‘I like some poetry but not really yours’ (Hollie’s daughter) – just some of the plaudits for Hollie McNish. We’re excited to welcome the award-winning poet and author for a chat and live reading of new book Slug…and other things I’ve been told to hate (May 2021).
From Finnish mermaids and soppy otters to Kellogg’s anti-masturbation pants, Slug is a book that holds a mirror up to the world, past and present, through Hollie’s driving, funny and beautiful words. A blend of poetry, memoir and short story, Slug is an absolutely joyful read about the human condition: from birth to death and her attempt to manage the tangle in-between.
McNish has published four poetry collections, has millions of views for her online performances, and was the first poet to record at Abbey Road Studio. Her works have been translated into several languages and she has performed them worldwide alongside Irvine Welsh, Kate Tempest, Young Fathers and more.
Expect strong language and adult content in the carefully and caringly sculpted poetry.
