Chorus of Opera North

Opera North’s versatile and talented Chorus is a fundamental part of the Company.

Since its foundation in 1978, the group has achieved success and an enviable reputation through independent performances and Opera North productions. The Chorus of Opera North performs in a wide range of concerts and produces outstanding recordings.

In addition to their ensemble performances in Opera North’s productions, many members of the Chorus regularly take principal roles for the Company, and in recent years have demonstrated their strength through productions cast solely from the Chorus, including Trial by Jury, Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill, and Into the Woods.

Members of the Chorus of Opera North also take part in delivering Education and outreach activities, including singing workshops, masterclasses and ‘come and sing’ sessions, and special performances for children and schools, helping to introduce thousands of young people to classical music and opera throughout the North of England.

They have taken part in Education events including the Big Sing, a series of performances involving over 900 schoolchildren singing music from WWI alongside Chorus members,  Little Listeners concerts performed by Chorus members for children under seven, and Singing Through The Ages sessions introducing choral and opera music to secondary school pupils.
