Captioned Performances

All Opera North productions sung in a different language have surtitles in English which are a summary of what is being sung, and we now also have surtitles on most performances sung in English. We also sometimes caption a performance which means that all the dialogue, including sound effects, and the name of who is singing or speaking, is displayed on two screens either side of the stage. This is useful for people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing.

Customers booking especially for the captioning may be eligible for discounts in some venues, so please contact the box office of your chosen venue. They can also recommend seating areas with the best views of the screens.

We also have surtitle screens in the Howard Assembly where we display the English translations for songs sung in different languages for most of our classical concerts.
