Guitarist, producer and composer Justin Adams and singer, violinist and percussionist of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino Mauro Durante bring their visionary collaboration to Leeds.
As heard on their 2021 album Still Moving, they reach into the traditions of Italy (folk songs like ‘Damme Nu Ricciu’; classics like ‘Amara Terra Mia’), America (‘Little Moses’, the Carter Family classic) and further afield with Adams’ passion for Arabic and African trance/blues.
This new collaboration, on which both also sing, stems from a concert led by Ludovico Einaudi in Puglia where the two first played together, recognising kindred spirits in the trance rhythms of Taranta which transcend the blues. Together they create a raw, stripped-back sound that moves and mesmerises.
“One of the albums of the year”
★★★★★– Songlines“Thoroughly unpredictable and profoundly meditative”
★★★★ – The Times“…hypnotic beauty”
★★★★ – Mojo“A thrilling, spontaneous affair… Adams is an astonishing player.“
