A Tale of Orpheus & Eurydice
This event has passed.
A joyful 45-minute exploration of love, music, and hope for the future.
The Orpheus myth opens with the death of Eurydice, but their story began long before that. Discover the legend of the original star-crossed lovers in this pop-up musical experience which finds them lost in an unfamiliar city. Join them on their journey to find shelter for the night and encounter music from opera to South Asian classical, from folk and blues to Purcell.
Performers from South Asian and Western musical traditions imagine a prequel to Monteverdi’s opera. A perfect introduction to this timeless myth, and to opera itself.
Part of Opera North’s Orpheus season, also featuring: a reimagining of Monteverdi’s Orpheus which brings together the worlds of Western baroque and Indian classical music, Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and Orpheus in the Record Shop which fuses spoken word and beatboxing with classical music.
In collaboration with South Asian Arts-uk.
In Newcastle this production is in collaboration with GemArts.
