Les Amazones d’Afrique
This event has passed.
Les Amazones d’Afrique is a creative force that embraces international voices; sweet, strong harmonies that summon the rights of women and girls; and a meltdown of heritage and new generation talent.
They were formed in Bamako, Mali, in 2014, and have since expanded to involve many female artists from across Africa and the diaspora.
Afrobeat, funk and reggae come together in this all-female supergroup. Their debut album République Amazone featured guest contributions from the likes of Angélique Kidjo and Nigerian singer-songwriter Nneka, and caught the attention of President Obama, who included a song in his 20 favourite tracks of 2017. Their follow-up album Amazones Power (2020), features familiar voices alongside a younger generation of singers who represent the exciting new sound of modern Africa.
The current line-up features founder member Mamani Keïta, Ivorian singer and member of Na Afriki, Dobet Gnahoré, and Beninese vocalist Fafa Ruffino, who brings the musical influence of her Ghanaian heritage together with traditional music from Nigeria to Burkina Faso, gospel and soul. One not to miss in our intimate venue!
