Join us for five days of operatic creative exploration. Over the course of the week, you will learn about all the artistic elements that make an opera and create your own work.
We are excited to welcome young people, aged 8-11 years old, to our education studios at the Howard Opera Centre from Monday 1 to Friday 5 August 2022. Meeting each day between 10am and 3pm, participants will explore the creative processes of opera, taking inspiration from Oscar Wilde’s The Selfish Giant. Together they will produce a creative response to the story, trying their hand at composing, directing, designing, script writing, singing and performing. The week will culminate in an informal sharing for family and friends.
Led by Drama Coach, Gemma Woffinden, and Elena Camblor Gonzalez, Vocal Leader on Opera North’s award-winning In Harmony programme, the Creative Arts Camp is open to young people who like being creative and have an interest in music, drama or art. No experience or musical ability is necessary.
Due to venue capacity spaces are limited so we recommend booking as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
