Corporate Social Responsibility
As a company Opera North is committed to using the magic of opera to challenge, excite and inspire individuals and communities. Organisations such as Yorkshire Bank and Manchester Airports Group (MAG) plc have reaped the benefits of their association with the company’s work.
Opera North Education uses music and performance to spark new ideas, build confidence and develop skills amongst young people from city and rural communities from across the region.
Workshops often include a visit to see Opera North on stage with the aim of increasing access for new audiences.
Who we work with and how
Children in primary and secondary schools
• Small-scale opera productions for diverse age groups, touring studio theatres and arts centres across the north.
• School-based workshops led by professional artists who share their knowledge of opera and performance to create work with young people.
• Out-of-school projects, taking those inspired by their first opera experience a step further.
• Initiatives to break down barriers between mainstream and special needs schools through integration.
• Projects to support young people with special needs using music, drama and design.
Students in Further and Higher Education
We conduct workshops with music students from colleges and universities to enable them to work with renowned main-stage artists to explore professional practice.
Communities
Our long-term projects are based in some of the most deprived and diverse inner-city communities in the UK, where social and cultural exclusion is a real issue.
• Give access to quality musical experiences for the whole community
• Help to empower parents to take an active role in their children’s development
• Establish a more positive image for opera and music through showing how involvement in the arts can help people
